Since the mid-1990's Schibsted has developed and strengthened its online brands, and has created successes with both online newssites and online classifieds sites - for example Aftonbladet.se, VG.no, Finn.no, blocket.se and many others.
Aftonbladet is Scandinavia’s absolutely largest media website, while VG is the second-largest. FINN.no is Norway’s biggest online marketplace and one of the Nordic region’s most profitable online companies, while Blocket has the same strong position in Sweden. At the same time, new companies and brands, such as Hitta.se and E24 and have been established and have gradually become very successful.
Classifieds
In Europe, Schibsted has turned out one of the strongest players within online classifieds, after acquisition and further development of companies in several countries. In 2008, Schibsted gathered all online classifieds companies, except FINN.no which is a part of Media Norge, under a common management in the company Schibsted Classified Media (SCM). A faster and more effective expansion of internet activitiy outside of Scandinavia is one of the main goals.
Today Schibsted is the biggest player within online classifieds in Europe. SCM has operations in Sweden. Spain, France, Italy, Austria, Slovenia, Lithuania, Malaysia, Argentina, Venezuela, Mexico, Brazil and Colombia.
Web-TV
Web-TV is becoming an even more important focus area for Schibsted's online newspapers, a future medium for live pictures. VG Nett and the Media Norge newspapers, for example, have secured the right to send Norwegian top football on the Internet from 2009.
Development of the editorial product and improvement of usability has a strong focus. In terms of viewers, the big news is most likely to give higher numbers, especially spots from the most dramatic events. Specially produced content like VG Nett's "The Christmas Lemonade King's Christmas Calendar" also get a lot of attention.
Growth in mobile newspapers
Schibsted is now transferring its unique online positions to mobile-phone services. News, sports, entertainment and weather are typical topics for mobile phone content. Aftonbladet in Sweden and VG in Norway are the absolutely most read mobile-phone newspapers in their respective countries.
Content services for mobile phones
Schibsted ownes 43% of Aspiro and has established Inpoc as an important mobile brand. They offer logos, games and call signals to consumers, and also supply technical solutions for mobile-phone voting and competitions in newspapers and magazines and on TV channels.
